A PROMISING PATH FORWARD
There haven’t been too many years I am happier to see end than 2009. It was a year of upheaval, of unrequested change being foisted upon individuals and nations. Traditionally, the period around New Year’s day is a time to review what has gone before and anticipate what might be ahead. In this month’s cover-story package, Business Monthly sets out to do just that. Asked to take stock of the difficult year just past and look ahead, leaders of Egyptian government and industry are almost invariably hopeful that happier days just might be on their way here again.
That’s certainly the case here in the Business Monthly sector. There would appear to be much on the horizon to cheer the heart of an editor-in-chief. My thoughts jump ahead to the annual DoorKnock edition, which will be my first. And I am excited about plans for an education-theme issue that will be produced in coordination with a directory and special supplement put together by AmCham’s Education Committee. Hopefully it will be the first of many such efforts to marry the work of the magazine with the impressive expertise of AmCham members.
Finally, January 3 will mark the first time in a long time that Business Monthly has been fully staffed. Tamer Hafez will join Sarah Marquer and Rashad Mahmood to round out what should prove to be a formidable and dynamic team.
Throughout the year, we’ll be taking a hard look at the magazine, evaluating its parts and pieces in an effort to make it better. We’ll try to determine which features remain relevant and interesting, and which we can do without. I intend to be a regular presence at committee meeting and events, both to introduce myself and pick the brains of AmCham’s members. Additionally, I’d like to institute a more formal feedback process, possibly including sessions based on a focus group model.
Business Monthly is your magazine.
